Baldness – Hair Transplant
Early onset of baldness is becoming quite common .This may be due to the increased levels of stress and the fast pace of life today. Male pattern baldness is usually genetic. A metabolite of male hormone acts on hair follicles and makes them inactive in such people. The level of this hormone can be brought down by medicines which will make most of the hair to grow back.
The complete effect of medicines is seen in 3-6 months time. Younger people and those with recent onset of hair loss get very good results with medical therapy.
If after 6 months of medical therapy, there are areas of thinning hair or hair recession, hair replacement be considered. Hair usually returns in the region of the crown but not in the temporal regions.
Single follicular unit transfer has become the standard in hair replacement.
The patient’s own hair is harvested from the back of the head and separated into single follicular units and transplanted to balding areas. This is a day care surgery and recovery is quick. New hairs grow back in 2-4 months time. The area from where the hairs were harvested is closed in a thin line and lies hidden among the surrounding hairs. Transplanted hair looks natural and stays permanently. Medicines help maintain and prevent hair loss in other areas. Transplanted hair grows and looks normal. It can be combed or dyed as normal hair.
Follicular unit transfer (F.U.T) is a logical and permanent solution to baldness.
It is not surprising that F.U.T is fast becoming the most sought after aesthetic procedure for men.
